RGMC Routing

February 7, 2008 by kalleh

We’re routing with our in-house router (codename OnDeck, might change in the future) and high quality wind forecasts provided by WeatherTech for the Baltic.

The current routing with starting time 14.00 UTC (Feb 7th) show a total time of approx 20h. The waves might however have more impact in this route than accounted for in the polar.

The tack/jibe penalty (warning: technical post :) )

November 25, 2007 by kalleh

Showing maximum tack/jibe performance loss  at 1, 5, 15 and 20 knots. So at 20 knots,  you initally loose 2 knots, after 10 minutes 1 knot, and after 20 minutes you’ve got full performance.

The Winter Challenge

September 30, 2007 by kalleh

Thank you all for some awesome sailing in the Baltic Challenge. Congratulations to SK95SWE8 for a great victory. Next on the race schedule is the Winter Challenge.

The Winter Challenge is a new type of race, where you can start at any time during the race period, which for this race will be approximately 3 weeks.

Rules

  • Timing starts when you send your first command. Don’t send any commands before you intend to start.
  • You may only sail the course with one boat at a time. Using multiple accounts is cheating.
  • After your boat has fully completed the course, you may try again. You need a valid completion time to register the new boat.
  • Note the counter-clockwise race direction around Gotland!

Here’s an in-action screenshot from the Baltic Challenge, me trying to get away from the pack (didn’t work out, but lots of fun trying)!
